In this challenging role as a Senior Reliability Specialist, you will play a pivotal part in driving exceptional reliability into Tesla's energy systems.
Responsibilities:- Develop and communicate reliability targets for site, product, subsystem, and components to ensure seamless integration.
- Create Fault Trees and reliability block diagrams to assess system reliability, identifying areas for improvement.
- Analyze usage and environmental conditions from the field to refine requirement setting and testing methods, reducing costs and enhancing product quality.
- Apply statistical analysis to test and field data to inform reliability physics modeling, associated corrective actions, and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Collaborate with Design and Reliability Data Engineers to create, interpret, and validate numeric models of fielded and in-test products, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Specify reliability validation plans for components and subsystems using physics of failure, providing guidance on sample size requirements and durations for reliability testing.
- Drive reliability assessments in product design reviews, clearly communicating risk at each phase of product development and for released products.
- Facilitate failure analysis to understand root cause, drive resolution of failures occurring during product development, and research failure mechanisms to build more robust validation plans and influence design choices.
- Influence supplier selection for higher reliability, provide clear guidance on reliability requirements and demonstration to suppliers, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, with one or more years of industry experience in a reliability engineering role or equivalent experience.
- Understanding of accelerated testing methods, governing equations, and physics of failure for different failure mechanisms, enabling effective reliability assessment and mitigation.
- Proficiency in applied statistics and reliability statistics (Weibull distribution, Maximum Likelihood Estimation, Bayesian methods, Monte Carlo analysis), supporting informed decision-making.
- Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques such as optical microscopy, SEM, CSAM, X-ray, cross-sectioning, and EDX, facilitating accurate failure identification and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with the ReliaSoft Synthesis Platform, including Weibull++, BlockSim, ALTA, RGA, and xFMEA, streamlining reliability analysis and reporting.
- Knowledge of methods to design-in reliability, including electronic computer-aided design and mechanical computer-aided engineering (CAE) data into 3D finite element models, ensuring robust product design.
- Working knowledge of programming languages, preferably Python, supporting automation and data analysis tasks.
- Familiarity with reliability growth techniques, such as Crow-AMSAA and Crow Extended, and reliability warranty analysis and prediction methods, enabling proactive maintenance and cost optimization.
- Experience working with complex electronic and mechanical systems, fostering collaboration and innovation within cross-functional teams.
This role offers an estimated annual salary range of $104,000 - $222,000, reflecting market rates for senior reliability specialists in the energy sector.
