Job Summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as an After School Program Associate. This role is responsible for assisting the Education Manager in the operations of the After School and literacy programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with homework completion and provide support to students in need.
  • Encourage students to develop independent problem-solving and editing skills, promoting a growth mindset and a love for learning.
  • Lead a specific component of daily and monthly operations and programming for the Education Department, ensuring a high-quality experience for all participants.
  • Provide opportunities for children to succeed, develop, and strengthen academic, physical, and social skills, aligning with The Salvation Army's mission to empower individuals and communities.
  • Actively seek professional development and resources to further support youth and families, staying up-to-date with best practices and industry trends.
  • Report possible cases of child abuse, neglect, or endangerment to the proper authorities, upholding the highest standards of child safety and well-being.
  • Escort children from the pick-up locations to the Kroc Center, ensuring a safe and secure environment.
  • Ensure Child Safety Policies are practiced constantly, maintaining a culture of safety and respect.
  • Design, plan, and implement weekly lessons and activities, incorporating diverse and engaging approaches to learning.
  • Research resources and tools for students and families, providing access to valuable information and support.
  • Build a positive rapport with all children and their families, fostering strong relationships and a sense of community.
  • Other related duties as required, contributing to the overall success of the Education Department.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Experience working with youth (TK - 5th grade) (required)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Great communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Comfortable with enforcing program rules and policies, upholding a culture of respect and responsibility.
  • Ability to lead, with a strong sense of initiative and a willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Team player, with a collaborative approach to working with others.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes), with a focus on maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
