Job Summary

As a RN Intake Coordinator at the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, you will play a critical role in ensuring a positive patient experience. You will work closely with the Intake Team to vet, prioritize, schedule, and collect records for referrals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and respond to inquiries and patient referrals, establishing relationships with referral sources and hospital departments.
  • Determine the appropriateness of referrals for admission, in accordance with established admission criteria.
  • Interface with other hospital departments and physicians to facilitate the admission process, evaluating financial reimbursement and obtaining pre-certification for interventions.
  • Assist in determining resources required for patient care, ensuring availability prior to acceptance.
  • Provide an overview of services to be provided during hospitalization to patients, families, payers, and referral sources.
  • Notify payors of admission and expected course of treatment, assigning initial length of stay in accordance with standards of care criteria.
  • Track data regarding intakes and referral sources, providing guidelines and instruction to staff on program promotion, intake, and referral processes.
  • Communicate information about referred patients to rehab units and accept additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an NLN-approved nursing program.
  • Three years of experience in medical intake and/or care coordination.
  • Experience in relationship development and managed care.
  • Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) license and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
