We provide a hybrid work schedule (three days in the office, two days remote) to support flexibility.


Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, along with a suitable combination of education and experience as outlined below, will be considered for this role.

Position Responsibilities

The Measurement Engineering team is tasked with the design and construction of all natural gas transmission and distribution measurement and regulation facilities, along with the development of related measurement procedures and standards.

This Measurement Engineering role is situated at the Company's headquarters.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Designing mechanical systems for pipeline facilities that incorporate natural gas meters, regulators, and relief valves, including residential, commercial, and industrial meters, distribution stations, transmission stations, and other fabricated piping components.
  • Collaborating with internal drafting support, peer engineers, and customer-facing sales representatives to create fabrication-grade drawings and cost estimates.
  • Evaluating, selecting, and specifying materials for designs, as well as assessing material failures.
  • Offering support and training to project engineers and field operation staff regarding the proper application of Meter and Regulator Standards, as well as the start-up and troubleshooting of new and existing facilities and equipment.
  • Maintaining and developing documentation for design, procedures, standards, and installation guidance for metering and regulating equipment and facilities.

Candidates will be assessed based on their education, training, and experience in accordance with the qualification matrix for each position level outlined below.


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Applicants will be evaluated for employment based on the following criteria specific to the

Gas Strategic Business Unit:
o Engineer I: 0 - 2 years of relevant engineering experience
o Engineer II: 3+ years of relevant engineering experience
o Engineer III: 5+ years of relevant engineering experience and holds or previously held a valid US Professional Engineer License

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in a professional manner.
  • Experience in project management related to the design and construction of pipeline facilities (or equivalent engineering/construction management experience).
  • Relevant technical and analytical skills essential for the successful design and construction of pipeline facilities.
  • Capacity to build strong business relationships and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of employees.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and capable of learning new software/systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • Willingness to travel to various Company locations (travel expenses reimbursed).
  • A strong commitment to ongoing knowledge and skills development, with a readiness to accept roles of increased responsibility.
  • Ability to comply with safety and environmental policies/procedures.
  • Availability to work outside of standard business hours as needed.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities

Required Engineering Criteria:

  • A 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program, or
  • A 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside the U.S. accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord, or
  • A 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math, or Engineering Technology, along with a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited, or
  • Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience

  • Registered as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) within North Carolina, or the ability to obtain one of these designations within six months.
  • Experience in natural gas utility engineering and/or operations.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, including but not limited to Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 49 Part 192, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) regulations, and North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) regulations.
  • Advanced proficiency in computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, Flow Analysis Software, and Synergi Software).
  • Bilingual communication skills (Spanish) are a plus.

Education Requirements
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university is required.

Degrees in Mechanical or Civil Engineering are preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, or Qualifications Description
A valid driver's license with a safe driving record is required.
