Overview of the Production Engineering Specialist Role

This position involves a comprehensive analysis, planning, and execution of new production equipment, along with the establishment of robust manufacturing strategies. The role emphasizes leading equipment and process optimization initiatives on-site to promote continuous enhancement. A strong interdisciplinary approach is essential, as collaboration with Product Development, Sales, Cost Estimating, Purchasing, EHS, and global functions is integral to the responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all safety protocols while considering ergonomics and environmental factors, actively contributing to the development of a safety-oriented culture.
  • Oversee the rollout of new production equipment and ensure operator training aligns with established standards and final approval criteria.
  • Facilitate procurement processes through systematic project management within a collaborative environment.
  • Design production layouts that comply with group standards.
  • Analyze current production equipment and processes to plan and implement enhancements.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments by comparing cycle times with tact times to create effective capacity, staffing, and line balance plans.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at cost reduction and troubleshoot alongside the Product Development Department.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor systems that ensure optimized manufacturing feasibility, providing valuable input to product engineering and participating in early-phase design reviews.
  • Leverage previous launch experiences to develop and maintain process and equipment standards for prototype and production specifications.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to establish equipment and process standards, delivering solutions to meet critical launch objectives.
  • Benchmark existing processes and products, sharing best practices to facilitate the effective implementation of new technologies in product production and the continuous improvement of current offerings.
  • Assist plant engineering teams with building plans and monitor construction progress for new or modified facilities to enhance process flow and space utilization.
  • Support Program Management in preparing capital project proposals and obtaining quotes to justify new equipment acquisitions or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Be prepared to travel as necessary to manufacturing facilities and equipment suppliers to support assigned projects.
  • Conduct all business interactions professionally and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Familiarity with automotive component drawings and mathematical data files is essential.
  • A minimum of three years of engineering experience in a manufacturing setting is required, encompassing project management, equipment design and construction, and process engineering.
