Position Overview: The Shelter Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role in assisting the Program Director in establishing the overall strategy and providing direct oversight of the shelter during evening hours. This position is vital to Bay Cove's mission, ensuring that our services are accessible, welcoming, effective, and efficiently managed, thereby creating an environment conducive to personal growth for our guests.
This is a non-exempt role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide shelter support staff to deliver safe, respectful, and compassionate services within a low-threshold environment, grounded in evidence-based practices, including harm reduction and trauma-informed care principles.
- Facilitate effective communication with the First Step outreach team and assist in providing emergency mats for individuals identified by the outreach team.
- Oversee the management of emergency and overflow mats.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of guests through visual monitoring, active engagement, and adherence to established routines and safety protocols, recognizing the trauma many guests have experienced.
- Support the safety of guests and the facility by assisting shelter support staff with scheduled safety inspections and monitoring common areas both inside and outside the facility, providing constructive feedback and redirection as necessary.
- Complete necessary documentation during intake and maintain records in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) as required.
- Adhere to safety plans and restrictions set forth by shelter leadership.
- Promptly report any safety concerns to colleagues and collaborate to develop a response plan, ensuring incidents are communicated to the supervisor on duty or on-call as soon as it is safe to do so, followed by a written report after the situation stabilizes.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed, including contacting emergency services for situations that cannot be safely managed on-site and offering emergency assistance until professional help arrives.
- Assist shelter support staff in following established policies and procedures while addressing guest concerns.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Preferred Bachelor's Degree in psychology or related human service fields.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in health or human services.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and behavioral health or substance use disorders is preferred.
- Strong professional writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Basic proficiency in word processing and computer functions using Windows, Word, and Google applications.
- Individuals with lived experience are encouraged to apply.
