We maintain building and resident safety and health, create opportunities for New Yorkers through housing affordability, and engage New Yorkers to build and sustain neighborhood strength and diversity.

As a key part of this effort, the Division of Code Enforcement works closely with other HPD divisions and outside community partners to identify buildings in distress, assess and develop appropriate strategies to address those properties, and work closely with responsible owners to develop a plan to improve conditions and return buildings to firm financial footing and physical health.

The Division of Code Enforcement is composed of six divisions: Data Management & Technology, Division of Neighborhood Preservation, Administration & Internal Compliance, Housing Litigation Division, Division of Code Enforcement, and Emergency Operations and Enhanced Enforcement Division.

Your Role:
As a Clerical Support/Community Associate in the Division of Code Enforcement, you will perform a variety of administrative functions, including reviewing and processing Local Law Lead Exemption Applications for Private and NYCHA dwellings, acquiring a general understanding of the Local Law 1 of Housing Maintenance Code, and performing research and evaluating inspection reports for accuracy and completeness.

Your Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, you will review and process Local Law Lead Exemption Applications, acquire a general understanding of the Local Law 1 of Housing Maintenance Code, and perform research and evaluate inspection reports for accuracy and completeness. You will also confer with the Lead Exemptions Supervisor in the resolution of any problems and discrepancies with applications, and provide the supervisor with completed application packages for quality control.

Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above, or education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above requirements.
