POSITION SUMMARY:

The Multimedia Production Expert is responsible for executing specialized video production tasks that may include:

1) Crafting, producing, directing, and editing video content utilizing advanced electronic video production tools; or

2) Developing animated and other digital graphics through sophisticated software applications.

CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:

Roles within this classification report to a Head of Media Services or a similar supervisory position overseeing departmental video projects. Responsibilities encompass the comprehensive production of video programs primarily aimed at training, as well as public relations and informational initiatives. This role necessitates creativity in scriptwriting, production, direction, and editing of video content, alongside the operation of high-quality video production equipment, including but not limited to VTR machines, Timebase Correctors, Wave Form/Vectorscope, and Editing systems. Positions may also focus on multimedia computer imaging, including animation for video production, requiring independent functioning and advanced analytical skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Develop and conceptualize video programs by translating training objectives into effective production ideas, considering format, approach, content, and presentation level.

- Transform production concepts into finalized scripts by collaborating with subject matter experts, creating outlines, storyboards, shot lists, and writing dialogue with directorial instructions.

- Organize and schedule productions, including casting, crew assignments, set design, props, and wardrobe.

- Direct and guide staff in the creation of sets, props, and wardrobes, ensuring compliance with legal requirements for filming.

- Oversee the production crew, equipment, and cast during studio and location shoots, ensuring quality execution of the director's vision.

- Gather and analyze feedback from subject matter experts and participants to enhance video training programs.

- Operate high-quality video production equipment as a producer, director, or crew member, adhering to the director's instructions to achieve artistic and technical excellence.

- Utilize Windows and AppleOS systems with various software for word processing, communication, database management, graphics, video editing, and special effects.

- Supervise the production of diverse media materials, including audio and video recordings, and oversee graphic services.

- Engage in computer imaging tasks, ensuring all aspects of video production are addressed as needed.

- Analyze complex scripts to determine effective presentation strategies, focusing on clarity and impact.

- Create animated content for training, ensuring synchronization between animated segments and video output.

- Evaluate and recommend multimedia production equipment and software.

- Design original graphics and illustrations using advanced software to produce professional-quality materials.

- Address challenges in multimedia production, including budgeting and scheduling issues.

- Coordinate projects, assess the feasibility of contract services, and monitor vendor performance.

- Supervise staff in the creation of digital graphics for multimedia applications as necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

- Option 1: A Master's degree in Instructional Communications Technology or a related field.

- Option 2: A Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field, plus one year of experience in producing and directing training or informational video programs.

- Option 3: Completion of three years of college coursework (90 semester units) in communications or a related field, along with two years of relevant experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

- A valid California Class C Driver License or alternative transportation method to fulfill job-related duties.

PHYSICAL CLASS:

Physical Class II - Light: Involves administrative tasks requiring light physical effort, including occasional lifting and some bending or stooping.
