Core ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Substation Engineer is responsible for delivering comprehensive engineering design services for substation facilities, ensuring timely construction within allocated resources. This role includes providing leadership, training, and guidance to engineering staff.
- Design Development: Create cost-effective, technically sound, and reliable physical and control designs for substations. (10%)
- Expertise Provision: Act as a subject matter expert to resolve engineering challenges. (10%)
- Team Leadership: Oversee an engineering team to produce accurate designs and drawings. (20%)
- Cost Estimation: Generate precise cost estimates for budgeting purposes, ensuring cash flow requirements are met. (15%)
- Interdepartmental Coordination: Facilitate communication with other departments to maintain project schedules and expenditures. (10%)
- Project Scheduling: Contribute to the development of detailed project schedules and update project management systems accordingly. (5%)
- Expenditure Monitoring: Track project spending and implement cost control measures to meet financial commitments. (5%)
- Quality Assurance: Ensure quality control on projects by providing construction support and conducting site inspections as necessary. (5%)
- Guidance: Assist other departments in addressing complex substation design issues. (5%)
- Staff Oversight: Assign and review tasks for other engineering staff. (15%)
It is essential to adhere to all compliance requirements, understanding and following the relevant policies, codes, and regulations applicable to this position.
QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
Experience: 15 years of industry experience as a practicing engineer with a focus on highly technical work.
Candidates should demonstrate:
- In-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of substation and control engineering principles.
- Understanding of economic analysis methods, budgeting procedures, and relevant company policies.
- Familiarity with utility engineering practices, construction methods, and material specifications.
Skills required include:
- Ability to direct, coordinate, and review the work of engineering teams.
- Strong judgment and problem-solving capabilities with a high degree of independent decision-making.
Proficient in using PCs, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
