Position Overview:
The Construction Field Engineer will be an integral part of the field operations team, responsible for gathering, assessing, and coordinating all necessary information to ensure the successful execution of construction projects in line with contractual obligations. This role is pivotal in maintaining safety standards, adhering to project timelines, and achieving superior quality in construction.
Reporting Structure:
Reports to the Project Superintendent or designated Superintendents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct line and grade work for accurate building layout and control.
- Support the implementation of the site safety program and ensure subcontractor adherence to safety regulations.
- Assist in maintaining contract documents and electronic records for field operations.
- Help prepare Daily Construction Reports (DCRs).
- Review ongoing work to ensure compliance with accepted tolerances.
- Examine contract drawings, specifications, and shop drawings for proper coordination and installation.
- Contribute to the preparation of project as-builts.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Engineering Assistant Overview:
This role involves supporting engineering and administrative functions within the Special Projects Division (SPD) or other relevant departments.
Reporting Structure:
Reports to the Project Engineer or designated Engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in gathering and reviewing information for shop drawings, product data, and samples while facilitating communication across the project team.
- Manage communication aspects, including submissions and responses for Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Help prepare estimates for changes in work and review Change Order requests from subcontractors.
- Study contract drawings, specifications, and shop drawings for effective coordination and installation.
- Maintain and update contract documents and project logs.
- Distribute essential construction information to relevant parties.
- Support engineering efforts to ensure timely release of materials and equipment for fabrication.
- Assist in preparing final project records, including close-out documents and Operations/Maintenance (OM) Manuals.
- Engage in other assigned activities and responsibilities.
Qualifications for Field Engineer:
Two years of college education in Engineering, Construction, or a related field. Relevant experience in building construction or engineering is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, eagerness to learn, and effective communication abilities are essential. Proficiency in necessary computer applications is required.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands for this position include regular sitting, using hands for tasks, reaching, talking, and hearing. Frequent standing and walking are required, along with occasional climbing, kneeling, or crouching. The ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds is necessary.
Work Environment:
This position involves working on-site at construction locations, with exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, and varying weather conditions. Noise levels may range from moderate to very loud.
Qualifications for Engineering Assistant:
Two years of college education in Engineering, Construction, or a related field, or a bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years of relevant experience. Knowledge of contract documents, drawings, and specifications is desirable. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, along with effective communication abilities, are required. Proficiency in necessary computer applications is essential.
Physical Demands:
Similar to the Field Engineer role, this position requires frequent sitting, using hands for tasks, and the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Work Environment:
Exposure to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles may occur, with noise levels typically ranging from moderate to very loud.
