Position Title: Commissioning Technician

Department: Project Implementation and Operations

Reports To: Commissioning Manager

Location: Texas or Arizona with extensive on-site travel required

Position Summary:

The Commissioning Technician plays a crucial role within the commissioning team, primarily responsible for collaborating with the commissioning engineer and manager to facilitate the commissioning of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sites. The ideal candidate must be willing to travel extensively to various project locations across the country and occasionally internationally. A background in BESS or renewable energy equipment within a commissioning or service context is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute the commissioning of BESS sites utilizing CSI Energy Storage's Solbank Storage Power Block as part of a dedicated team.
  • Conduct tasks assigned by the commissioning manager and engineer, including safety system evaluations, installation inspections, and functional testing.
  • Perform routine activities such as executing commissioning checklists, updating issue logs, and monitoring the performance of commissioned systems.
  • Assist in the commissioning of the overall control system by verifying network connectivity of field devices and conducting point-to-point tests.
  • Provide on-site diagnostics, troubleshooting, and hands-on support as needed.
  • Oversee subcontractors on-site when necessary.
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures based on on-site experiences.
  • Help prepare testing documentation and reports in a timely manner.
  • Assist in identifying and compiling spare parts inventories.
  • Ensure compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and switching procedures as required.
  • Support training for clients and operation and maintenance contractors during and post-commissioning.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and policies.
  • Participate in and occasionally lead daily planning meetings.
  • Review vendor commissioning documentation for thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Maintain a punch list of deficiencies for each vendor and track the completion of various tasks.
  • Collaborate with commissioning engineers to optimize post-handover site performance.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Electro-mechanical Technician qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in installation or service environments, preferably in renewable energy or power generation.
  • Prior training or knowledge of inverters is highly desirable.
  • Experience with SCADA systems is advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, with strong communication skills.
  • Excellent practical problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with general and national codes, medium voltage power systems, and energy storage applications is beneficial.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel).
  • Experience with CMMS software is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • First Aid certification is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to various regional locations as necessary.
  • Demonstrated professional demeanor and conduct.
  • Must hold a valid passport for potential international travel.
