Position Title: Commissioning Technician

Department: Project Implementation and Operations

Reports To: Commissioning Manager

Location: TX or AZ with extensive on-site travel required

Role Summary:

The Commissioning Technician will play a vital role within the commissioning team, primarily responsible for collaborating with the commissioning engineer and manager to facilitate the commissioning of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sites. The ideal candidate must be prepared to travel extensively and perform tasks at various project locations across the country and occasionally internationally. Experience in BESS or renewable energy generation equipment within a commissioning or service context is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute the commissioning of BESS sites utilizing CSI Energy Storage's Solbank Storage Power Block as part of a dedicated team.
  • Carry out assignments from the commissioning manager and engineer, including safety system evaluations, installation inspections, and functional testing.
  • Perform routine tasks such as executing commissioning checklists, updating issue logs, and monitoring the performance of commissioned systems.
  • Support the commissioning of the overall control system by verifying network connectivity of all field devices and conducting point-to-point tests.
  • Provide on-site diagnostics, troubleshooting, and hands-on assistance as needed.
  • Oversee subcontractors on-site when necessary.
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures based on lessons learned during commissioning.
  • Assist in completing testing documentation and preparing test reports promptly.
  • Help identify and compile spare parts inventories.
  • Ensure compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and switching procedures as required.
  • Support training for clients and operation and maintenance contractors during and after the commissioning phase.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and policies.
  • Participate in and occasionally lead Plan of Day (POD) meetings.
  • Review vendor commissioning documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain a punch list of deficiencies for each vendor and track the completion of tasks.
  • Collaborate with commissioning engineers to optimize post-handover site performance.

Qualifications:

  • Electro-mechanical Technician qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an installation or service environment, preferably in renewable energy or power generation.
  • Previous training or knowledge of inverters is highly desirable.
  • Experience with SCADA systems is advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team or independently, with strong communication skills.
  • Proficient problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with general and national codes, medium voltage power systems, and energy storage applications is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel).
  • Experience with CMMS software is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • First Aid certification is required.
  • Willingness to travel to various regional locations as necessary.
  • Ability to function successfully both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated professional appearance and conduct.
  • Must hold a valid passport for potential international travel.
