Microsoft presents a remarkable opportunity for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer within the Cloud and Artificial Intelligence Silver Team. This specialized team is tasked with the deployment and management of a Secure Work Area, which includes the infrastructure necessary for collaboration in a highly secure, airgapped environment.

In this position, you will collaborate with engineers who facilitate a wide array of Azure services tailored for internal clients operating in highly regulated and secure sectors. The systems and software you develop will be essential in adhering to the security policies and assurance requirements mandated by both public and private sector clients.

Essential Qualifications

  • 6+ years of technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration.
    • OR a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, accompanied by 3+ years of technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration.
    • OR a Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, along with 2+ years of technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration.

Additional Requirements

Security Clearance: Candidates must fulfill Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

  • The successful candidate must possess an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Polygraph. Maintaining or obtaining the appropriate U.S. Government clearance and/or customer screening requirements is essential for this role.
  • Clearance Verification: This position necessitates successful verification of the stated security clearance to meet federal government customer requirements.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will require passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to legal restrictions associated with citizenship. Specifically, this role supports United States federal, state, and/or local government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions as permitted by applicable law.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration.
    • OR a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, accompanied by 4+ years of technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration.
    • OR a Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, along with 3+ years of technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration.
    • OR a Doctorate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with PowerShell, C#, or C++.
  • Experience in managing large-scale distributed services with on-call responsibilities.
  • Ability to build and influence broadly towards common goals and priorities.
  • Ownership of the end-to-end project lifecycle, demonstrating solid project management and communication skills.

  • Exhibits expertise in designing distributed systems, understanding interactions between cloud technology layers and components, and recognizing common dependencies at scale. Capable of identifying and recommending optimal configurations for cloud technology solutions and modifying the code base that defines systems or cloud technologies to enhance reliability and operability with minimal guidance.
  • Develops a comprehensive understanding of the code, features, and operations of specific products at scale to contribute to incremental improvements in product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance; actively participates in onboarding, code/design reviews, and regular meetings with engineering teams responsible for those products.
  • Maintains awareness of industry trends, advancements in distributed systems and cloud technologies, and new tools or processes for enhancing product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance. Contributes to the implementation of new solutions within their team by identifying applicable methods to resolve persistent issues.
  • Engages with product engineering teams through participation in code/design reviews, regular meetings, on-call rotations, and incident responses throughout product development and operational cycles; leverages technical expertise and insights drawn from engagements with product engineering teams and telemetry analyses to propose potential enhancements in code base and designs across components and features of one or more products.
