Position Overview:

Edgewater Federal Solutions, Inc. is in search of a skilled Systems Engineer to support our federal government clientele. The Systems Engineer will deliver Tier III assistance for the deployment, troubleshooting, and upkeep of both classified and unclassified Information Technology (IT) systems. This role involves configuring and managing various operating systems, installing and loading software, resolving issues, maintaining system integrity, and configuring network components to enhance reliability and performance. The Systems team is responsible for developing and executing flexible technology strategies that drive business success. A comprehensive background in technology strategy development, network consolidation, virtualization, modernization, SAN administration, data center operations, and database management is essential. Please note that this position requires a current DOE Q or DOD/DOJ TS clearance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provision, install, configure, operate, and maintain multiple server environments.
  • Plan, implement, and uphold systems configuration in line with configuration management protocols.
  • Conduct installations of operating systems and associated software.
  • Support end-user applications and assist application support teams in implementation and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Perform routine maintenance on software and hardware, including firmware upgrades, patches, and fixes.
  • Execute daily backup operations.
  • Prepare technical specifications documentation.
  • Contribute to cybersecurity efforts through vulnerability management and remediation, STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) implementation, and incident response.
  • Recommend technical standards and policies.
  • Collaborate with vendors to troubleshoot, maintain, and implement hardware and software solutions.
  • Analyze and enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Conduct systems inventory and update asset management documentation.
  • Document and update systems architecture diagrams and server rack elevations using Microsoft Visio.
  • Provide technical assistance, training, and system documentation for users to promote efficient application operation.
  • Conduct risk assessments, account audits, access rights audits, and activity audits.
  • Develop disaster recovery procedures, including the implementation of warm site and testing of tier one application failover.
  • Work collaboratively with server, SAN, and application teams to identify operational characteristics, diagnose issues, determine viable solutions, select the most appropriate solutions, and implement them in a timely manner in accordance with Change Control Process.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures; contribute to and uphold system standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain system performance through monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, troubleshooting, system hardware installation, firmware patching, and VMware software patching.
  • Document and share knowledge with fellow staff through training sessions.
  • Present insights, status updates, and progress reports to management through clear written and verbal communication.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required per contract.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in an IT Operations environment.
  • 5+ years of experience directing system-level design and configuration of products, including hardware, OS, and other platform specifications.
  • 3+ years of experience with VMware ESXi/vSphere/vCenter; VDI Instant Clone management experience is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting classified systems.

Desired Skills:

  • VDI Linked/Instant Clone management experience preferred.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), Engineer (RHCE), Architect (RHCA).
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or higher.
  • VMware Certified Professional – 5.0 or higher, Datacenter Virtualization, Desktop.
  • Citrix Certified Expert – Virtualization, Networking.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Stack.
  • Experience with Nutanix.
  • ITIL v3 or 4 certification.
  • Certifications in MS Azure, VMware, Cisco, and RHEL are advantageous.
