Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Prior Authorization Specialist to join our team at Beacon Hill. As a central contact for patients, providers, and payers, you will play a crucial role in obtaining insurance pre-authorization for procedures. This is a direct-hire position, and you will be working onsite in Plymouth, MN.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate computer and phone systems to accurately record contacts, discussions, patient tracking, and the pre-authorization process.
  • Verify and update patients' insurance and demographic information.
  • Research and record payer processes for pre-authorizations and appeals.
  • Verify and update insurance cards/eligibility, other billing-related documents, and complete work activities to ensure timely completion.
  • Follow regulatory and organizational processes to ensure necessary forms are completed.
  • Operate a fax machine, photocopier, and/or printer effectively to communicate patient information to necessary recipients.
  • Identify and resolve problems in a professional and timely manner by collecting and relaying information to the appropriate team to ensure resolution.
  • Pleasant demeanor with patients and their providers.
  • Regular in-office attendance is required to carry out the essential functions of the position.
  • Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform within scope, role-specific functions.
Qualifications and Skills
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of physician billing experience.
  • Patient insurance verification or pre-authorization experience in a healthcare setting, required; 2 years preferred.
  • Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • HIPAA regulations and Microsoft Office programs.
