Position Overview

The Clinical Registered & Licensed Dietitian (RD, LD) plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive nutritional support to pediatric, adolescent, and select adult patients within designated service lines. This position involves collaborating in the formulation, execution, and assessment of departmental objectives while ensuring adherence to standards set by regulatory bodies. The Clinical RD, LD is also responsible for providing nutritional education to the healthcare team, patients, caregivers, and the broader community as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Initiate and manage comprehensive nutritional care for inpatients and outpatients within assigned service lines, ensuring high-quality standards in line with evidence-based practices.
  • Conduct nutrition screenings and assessments to identify each patient's unique dietary needs, formulating and documenting individualized nutrition care plans in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of diet orders, including modified diets and enteral feedings, based on established dietary guidelines.
  • Supervise the assignment of nutrition interventions and related tasks to Dietetic Technicians (DTR), ensuring adherence to accepted nutrition standards.
  • Review modified menus for inpatients to ensure compliance with individual nutrition care plans.
  • Monitor and document patients' nutrient intake, providing recommendations for modifications or supplementation as necessary.
  • Deliver patient education on modified diets and general nutrition, adapting materials for home use and documenting comprehension in the EMR.
  • Act as a consultant for nutrition-related inquiries from patients, caregivers, and medical staff.
  • Participate in patient care conferences and team rounds to enhance communication and improve patient care quality.
  • Monitor patients receiving enteral nutrition therapy, documenting evaluations and recommendations in the EMR.
  • Contribute to the development and assessment of departmental goals aimed at improving patient care.
  • Serve as a mentor to dietetic students, overseeing their patient care-related tasks and providing constructive feedback.
  • Share knowledge on nutrition-related topics with various healthcare professionals, maintaining current evidence-based practice knowledge.
  • Engage in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and hospital committees as required.
  • Participate in ongoing educational activities to maintain licensure and enhance professional skills.
  • Demonstrate RD, LD competencies annually and complete mandatory education requirements.
  • Collaborate with Nutrition Services staff to coordinate patient food preferences and menu modifications.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Bachelor's degree in nutrition, registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), and licensure to practice as a dietitian in accordance with state regulations.

2. Minimum of one year of clinical experience as a registered and licensed dietitian post-internship; pediatric experience is preferred.

3. Strong analytical and organizational skills to assess patients' nutritional needs and develop appropriate care plans.

4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for educating patients, families, and healthcare staff.

5. Effective interpersonal skills for collaborating with a diverse range of healthcare professionals and stakeholders.
