Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nutritional care for inpatients and outpatients, developing and updating care standards tailored to the specific patient population.
  • Conduct nutrition screenings and assessments to identify individual nutrient requirements, formulating and documenting personalized nutrition care plans.
  • Evaluate diet orders for modified diets and enteral feedings, ensuring appropriateness based on established dietary guidelines.
  • Supervise the assignment of nutrition interventions and related activities to Dietetic Technicians (DTR), ensuring compliance with accepted standards.
  • Review modified menus for patients, ensuring selections align with their individual nutrition care plans.
  • Monitor nutrient intake for patients receiving enteral nutrition therapy, documenting findings and recommendations in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Deliver patient education on modified diets and general nutrition, adapting materials for home use and documenting comprehension.
  • Act as a consultant for nutrition-related inquiries from patients, caregivers, and medical staff.
  • Engage in patient care conferences and team rounds to enhance communication and patient care quality.
  • Participate in departmental goal-setting and evaluation to improve patient care outcomes.
  • Serve as a mentor to dietetic students, overseeing their performance and providing constructive feedback.
  • Share knowledge on nutrition-related topics with various hospital staff, maintaining current evidence-based practice knowledge.
  • Contribute to clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and hospital committees as necessary.
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain licensure and enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrate competencies annually and complete mandatory education requirements.
  • Collaborate with Nutrition Services to ensure patient food preferences and dietary needs are met.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. A Bachelor's degree in nutrition, along with registration and licensure as a dietitian from the appropriate regulatory body.

2. A minimum of one year of clinical experience as a registered and licensed dietitian post-internship, with pediatric experience preferred.

3. Strong analytical and organizational skills to assess patients' nutritional needs and implement effective care plans.

4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for educating patients, families, and staff, as well as documenting care activities.

5. Effective interpersonal skills for collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

Physical Requirements

Frequent sitting, talking, typing, and standing/walking are required in this role.
