Position Summary:

The Senior Excess Liability Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting new Excess Liability business and managing renewals in accordance with established authority levels and guidelines.

We collaborate to cater to specialty markets, prioritizing the success of our clients by delivering tailored coverage through our subsidiaries.

Our comprehensive suite of high-quality products and services is designed to address the distinct coverage and claims-handling requirements of our clientele.

This role offers flexibility, allowing for remote work or alignment with an Argonaut office.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and price policies to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and authority.
  • Utilize underwriting tools for accurate classifications, rates, and premium assessments.
  • Engage with wholesale brokers through various communication channels to gather risk-specific information, negotiate terms, and clarify company positions.
  • Manage an assigned underwriting territory, including agent management and potential travel to agent locations.
  • Oversee and authorize endorsements as necessary.
  • Address premium audit disputes within the designated territory.
  • Review state regulations regarding cancellation and non-renewal to ensure compliant business transactions.
  • Analyze and interpret data from various reports.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or 2-5 years of relevant insurance experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • 1-3 years of underwriting experience with authority, ideally in excess and surplus lines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous educational experience in insurance, such as IIA and CPCU, is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with initiative and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Excellent analytical capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
