Your Impact

As a Regional Underwriting Specialist, you will:

  • Independently assess, monitor, and price new and renewal business in accordance with company guidelines and underwriter authority.
  • Evaluate and price risks based on established guidelines.
  • Forge and nurture robust, long-term relationships with wholesale brokers and clients to effectively grow a profitable book of business.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, conditions, and deal structures with brokers.
  • Engage in special underwriting projects as required.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to brokers and clients.
  • Promote our products and services, including travel to assigned agents as necessary.
  • Communicate with agents regarding rating, underwriting, and policy issuance matters.
  • Provide training and mentorship to underwriting staff, reviewing and approving underwriting decisions when necessary.
  • Initiate, coordinate, and execute projects to completion, such as revised forms, new coverages/classes, research, and underwriting guide updates.
  • Assist in planning and implementing in-house educational training or other company initiatives.
  • Independently underwrite risks of varying complexity.
  • Establish and refine work systems and procedures, suggesting improvements as needed.
  • Assist in evaluating agents and making recommendations to management.
  • Utilize various underwriting tools to gain insights into your portfolio, identifying loss drivers and proposing solutions for a profitable business mix.
  • Represent the company professionally at industry events and conventions.
  • Advise and assist the Line of Business leader in developing and administering the company's technical underwriting philosophies and product pricing.
  • Collaborate with other divisions to enhance service and process efficiencies.
  • Recommend improvements based on statistical analyses provided by data processing and industry services to enhance underwriting and profitability.
  • Support underwriters with quotes, problem-solving, workflow, and projects.

Qualifications for Success

  • A bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Commercial Insurance, Agency, or Brokerage.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Working knowledge of US Casualty lines, including product features, forms, regulatory environments, and associated risks, particularly in the Surplus lines or Excess Casualty sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in sales, marketing, and relationship building.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, rapidly evolving environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with diverse colleagues to deliver solutions promptly.
  • A willingness to be flexible, learn on the job, and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Comfort with analytical tools and technology.
