Job Overview

The Underwriter plays a crucial role in managing the underwriting and servicing of renewal accounts for brokers and producers within the designated territory, ensuring adherence to the company's underwriting guidelines, authority, and pricing standards while upholding the values of AmTrust Financial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts research and develops new business classes as directed, analyzing market trends and competition.
  • Evaluates individual risks in collaboration with assigned brokers, making informed decisions to accept or decline business based on necessary information.
  • Applies advanced technical expertise to assess loss exposures, determining appropriate premium charges and identifying necessary endorsements and exclusions for insurance contracts.
  • Achieves production and loss ratio targets with assigned agents/brokers through effective management and marketing strategies.
  • Addresses complex issues related to coverage, terms, and conditions, continuously analyzing premium and loss results by state and major business classes.
  • Oversees policy maintenance and mid-term requests, including conducting midterm policy audits.
  • Reviews endorsement requests, authorizing necessary policy changes, and collaborates with agents/brokers to ensure compliance with loss control recommendations.
  • Travels to broker offices for training or marketing purposes and engages with clients visiting the company as needed.
  • Contributes to the development of marketing strategies for underwriting events and campaigns.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial lines property and casualty.
  • Expertise in Excess Casualty coverage, risk selection, and pricing methodologies, including familiarity with ISO Classifications.
  • Proven ability to interpret and analyze data for informed risk decisions.
  • Capacity to contribute to both tactical and strategic planning.
  • Strong collaboration skills with diverse individuals within the area of expertise.

Preferred:
  • CPCU, AIS, or CIC designation preferred, or equivalent education and experience.
