Geological Specialist

The Geological Specialist plays a crucial role in overseeing mineral analysis projects, which includes client engagement, project oversight, data interpretation, and reporting. This position is integral to the Mineralogy team at Geotemps, Inc. / Geopros, Inc., contributing to business development, mentoring team members, and ensuring data integrity and quality control.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee mineral analysis projects for both internal and external stakeholders, under the guidance of the Mineralogy Manager;
  • Conduct all necessary data processing tasks (including mineral identification, calculations, data entry, and archival) as required or directed;
  • Draft and prepare technical documentation as necessary or as instructed by the Mineralogy Manager;
  • Operate equipment in accordance with established methods and procedures;
  • Perform calibration and maintenance of instruments as needed;
  • Deliver precise results to clients in a timely manner;
  • Make technical decisions for complex and non-routine analyses;
  • Support data quality and control through sample preparation, assays, and instrument measurements;
  • Utilize appropriate methods in line with established procedures while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Assist in developing proposals and invoicing clients as directed by the Mineralogy Manager;
  • Adhere to established safety protocols and comply with all health and safety regulations;
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Mineralogy Manager.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills, effective time management, and meticulous attention to detail;
  • Proficient computer skills suitable for using iDiscover/MAPS and other specialized software;
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word;
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Experience and knowledge of geological and mineralogical laboratory techniques, including optical microscopy and QEMSCAN/MLA/TIMA;
  • Familiarity with other mineralogical techniques such as XRD, SEM-EDS, Electron Microprobe, and LA-ICPMS to support automated mineralogy data and metallurgical testing;
  • Prior experience in a consulting role with skills in report writing, client communication, and project management is advantageous;
  • Commitment to proper data management practices;
  • Able to work collaboratively within a team environment;
  • Capable of working under pressure, meeting deadlines, and managing multiple projects independently;
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment to ensure timely project completion;
  • Conscientious in following established procedures and maximizing work quality.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline;
  • Experience operating a scanning electron microscope or similar equipment is beneficial;
  • A minimum of 4-10 years of experience in mineralogy or automated mineralogy, applying data to metallurgical testing and other sectors.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods;
  • Capability to view and interpret data on a computer screen;
  • Ability to stand and reach over analytical equipment regularly;
  • Manual dexterity is essential.

Compensation: $35 to $50 per hour, depending on experience.
