With a strong national presence, OATS focuses on community strengthening and advocacy for critical issues affecting over 100 million Americans aged 50-plus and their families, including health, financial stability, and personal growth.
The Senior Vice President of Public Policy plays a pivotal role in guiding OATS's policy research agenda, which informs the development of our public policy positions and influences the implementation of effective solutions in both policy and practice. This position leads the Public Policy Institute (PPI), OATS's esteemed think tank, and is responsible for identifying both current and emerging policy priorities. The SVP collaborates with internal and external experts to shape and elevate the policy research and analysis that supports our organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities- Establishes the strategic vision for the organization's public policy research and analysis, including necessary investments to achieve objectives.
- Oversees the Public Policy Institute (PPI), leading the execution of its strategic plan and ensuring a reputation for excellence in thought leadership.
- Provides visionary leadership to enhance PPI's influence as a policy research think tank, impacting public policy initiatives at various levels.
- Proactively identifies emerging issues relevant to older adults and positions the organization to address these through actionable insights.
- Acts as a trusted advisor on public policy matters, supporting senior leadership in strategic decision-making.
- Leads a high-performing team of experts, fostering an environment of innovation and excellence.
- Ensures the production of comprehensive public policy analysis and research, collaborating with key stakeholders and external partners.
- Manages a substantial annual budget and a team of approximately 40 policy experts, conducting regular strategic meetings to align departmental goals.
- Master's degree or Juris Doctorate required.
- A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in public policy, economics, or a related discipline.
- At least 10 years of experience in a leadership role, demonstrating a forward-thinking approach to strategic initiatives.
- Extensive knowledge in aging policy, health policy, or economic security policy.
- Proven success in shaping public policy research agendas and influencing outcomes at various governmental levels.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex policy issues to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated capability to represent the organization effectively in various public policy forums.
