Job Description

Job Summary:

The General Manager is responsible for leading the Petco team to achieve exceptional results in sales, profitability, and operational excellence. This role requires a strong leader who can inspire and motivate a team to deliver outstanding customer service, drive sales growth, and maintain a positive work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • People:
    • Build a high-performing team that embodies the Petco brand and delivers exceptional customer service.
    • Attract, hire, and retain top talent by creating a positive and inclusive work environment.
    • Train, coach, and develop leaders and hourly partners in all areas and functions required to run the store efficiently and to Petco standards.
    • Create a professional environment that inspires and encourages the growth and engagement of partners.
    • Lead and implement a positive culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.
  • Performance:
    • Meet or exceed sales, profitability, and operational excellence goals.
    • Schedule and adjust labor hours and payroll to maximize productivity and achieve sales and payroll goals.
    • Review and interpret financial and operational reporting regularly, including store visits and audit results.
    • Identify underperforming metrics and develop strategies to improve and grow the business.
  • Process:
    • Ensure the proper health, appearance, welfare, and proper handling of all animals.
    • Ensure merchandise is properly priced, displayed, and stocked according to inventory levels.
    • Complete and submit accounting, inventory management, and payroll paperwork in a timely manner.
    • Maintain the store's appearance and adhere to Petco operational standards and safety procedures.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three or more years of management experience or equivalent required.
  • Previous retail management experience preferred.
  • Strong business acumen, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills.
  • Aptitude for demonstrating strong customer service and ability to instruct others.
  • Keen and genuine interest in all kinds of animals.

Working Conditions:

The majority of job duties are conducted indoors, although occasional merchandise stocking, customer carry-outs, and bank deposits may require leaving the store briefly. The role requires bending, kneeling, moving merchandise (up to 50 pounds), and standing for long periods of time, which may pose a risk of injury if safety precautions and procedures are not followed.
