Position Summary:

The Skate Guard is responsible for overseeing public skating sessions, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. This role includes managing the skate rental counter and assisting customers with their needs.


Work Schedule:

  • Availability to work approximately two-thirds of each month, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor all public skating events, both on and off the ice, to ensure safety and respond to customer inquiries.
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the ice arena, including sweeping and custodial tasks.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and ensure adherence to all policies and procedures.
  • Manage the skate rental counter, providing equipment during public skating sessions and special events.
  • Maintain and repair rental skates and equipment as necessary.
  • Stay informed about session times, rink details, and general information for patrons.
  • Report any issues or concerns to the supervisor on duty.
  • Skate on the ice as required to assist patrons.
  • Administer first aid when necessary.
  • Understand emergency procedures for equipment and facility evacuation.
  • Ensure the overall cleanliness of the Oakland Ice Center.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must wear the assigned uniform during all shifts.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends, holidays, and late nights.
  • Proficient ice skating skills are preferred.
  • Previous experience in an ice rink environment is advantageous.
  • Must be capable of fulfilling the physically demanding essential functions of the role.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work in a cold environment.
