Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior General Accountant to join our finance team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing the financial operations within our retail electricity business.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Create and post unbilled revenue entries for month-end accounting
- Accrue for power purchases at month-end
- Perform volume analysis for revenue vs. cost of sales and book adjusting accrual at month-end
- Maintain record inventory and monthly obligations
- Create and post mark-to-market entries for month-end accounting
- Post exchange activity and reconcile to energy trading and risk management (ETRM) for month-end accounting
- Compliance Accounting
- Adhere to accounting principles, company policies, and relevant regulations
- Ensure compliance with internal controls
- Assist in all audits, including internal, external, and tax filings
- Assist in budgeting process
- Prepare various ad-hoc reports and requests
- Financial Operations
- Manage and maintain general ledger reconciliations
- Calculate and record income tax and deferred tax
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a plus
- Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role
- Experience in the retail electricity industry or energy sector is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements
- Enthusiastic, driven, and committed to success while working under tight time constraints and pressure
- Strong ability to work collaboratively within teams and independently
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines
- Effective communication with internal teams and management
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
