TITLE: DROP OUT PREVENTION SPECIALIST

QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's Degree in education or equivalent education and work experience.

JOB GOAL:

The primary objective is to investigate and facilitate the reintegration of students who have dropped out of educational programs, thereby enhancing the number of students who successfully complete their high school education. Additionally, the role aims to improve attendance rates among students identified as at risk of dropping out.

Chief of Youth, Family, and Community Engagement

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As established by the Board of Education

SALARY:
Local 884, Special Funds, Range 10, $51,540. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of future funding. New hires in this position will not be covered by the City pension but will remain covered by Social Security.

EVALUATION:
Performance will be assessed according to the Board of Education's policies regarding personnel evaluation.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Analyze and review dropout-related statistics and incidents using available data.
2. Clarify and reaffirm district attendance policies and procedures across all schools.
3. Identify dropouts through self-referrals, third-party recommendations, and social services input.

4. Develop a supportive program aimed at assisting dropouts in returning to educational settings by collaborating with students, families, school district staff, and community social service agencies.


5. Identify at-risk students based on attendance and academic performance metrics in selected areas (grade level/school).
6. Facilitate interactions among students, parents, staff, and mentors to enhance attendance and academic performance.
7. Create and promote opportunities for improving educational experiences for these students, including after-school and work-related programs.

8. Establish a systematic approach to identify students in grades 7 through 12 who display behaviors commonly associated with dropping out, such as behavioral issues, high absenteeism, or involvement in substance abuse.


9. Regularly meet with school staff to provide academic and social support for students re-entering the educational system.
10. Maintain consistent communication with referred students and school staff through home visits, phone calls, and written correspondence.
11. Develop and keep accurate records documenting dropout prevention efforts.
12. For students opting not to return to the traditional system, serve as a resource for alternative educational programs.
