Overview of the NY HELPS Program
This job opportunity is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS), an innovative initiative aimed at providing employment opportunities without requiring a competitive examination. Under the NY HELPS Program, temporary appointments may transition into permanent non-competitive roles based on performance evaluations. Employees participating in NY HELPS are expected to move towards competitive employment status within a year, enjoying the same benefits as other competitive class employees in New York State. Those in NY HELPS positions may also qualify for promotional exams if eligible.

Qualifications Summary
  • Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications (NY HELPS): One year of clerical experience.
  • Competitive Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess permanent competitive or 55 b/c employee status in New York State to be eligible.
  • Permanent Appointment (Non-NY HELPS): Requires one year of permanent competitive service as an Office Assistant 2 or eligibility based on the Office Assistant 2 list.
  • 70.1 Transfer or Reinstatement: Requires one year of relevant service or eligibility for transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
  • Reassignment: Permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Office Assistant 2 is required.
  • Provisional Appointment: Eligible for provisional appointment based on NYS Civil Service guidelines.
Employment Conditions:
This position offers the possibility of permanent or provisional appointment. Applicants should be aware that priority may be given to State employees from preferred, transfer, or reemployment lists.

Position Overview
The Facilities Services Department at the State University of New York at Oswego is looking for a full-time Office Assistant 2. Key responsibilities include engaging with various stakeholders, managing communications, overseeing student employees, handling data management, scheduling, procurement tasks, and coordinating departmental activities.

Salary Information:
$41,399 annually, commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Engaging with stakeholders through in-person interactions, phone calls, and electronic communications.
  • Managing confidential information and departmental email communications.
  • Scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, and supervising student employees.
  • Utilizing Excel and Google Sheets for effective data management.
  • Assisting in the coordination of departmental workflow, managing work orders, and facilitating procurement tasks.
  • Participating in OSHA training coordination and other administrative responsibilities related to employee well-being.
