Job Overview

The Aircraft Operations Instructor is responsible for delivering comprehensive instruction on HC-130J Aircraft Systems and operational protocols in various settings, including aircraft, classrooms, and simulators. This role includes contributing as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the C-130J in the creation of curriculum for new training courses as necessary. Additional responsibilities may encompass courseware evaluation and various administrative tasks such as managing publications, ensuring safety compliance, conducting quality audits, maintaining the Flight Crew Information File (FCIF), and scheduling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver hands-on instruction and demonstrations of HC-130J Pilot procedures across multiple platforms.
  • Facilitate Visual Threat Recognition Avoidance Training (VTRAT).
  • Conduct HC-130J specific Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Instrument Refresher Course (IRC) training.
  • Exhibit proficiency in assessing, diagnosing, and enhancing student performance; identify learning challenges; and provide remedial instruction as needed.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in developing and reviewing curriculum for new and existing courses.
  • Offer recommendations for the enhancement and modernization of training policies and procedures.
  • Encourage a positive learning environment and adaptability to new technologies and methodologies.
  • Provide ground training for crew members, addressing and resolving student issues.
  • Assist in various project and development initiatives as assigned.
  • Manage administrative tasks including scheduling, record-keeping, monitoring student progress, and ensuring quality assurance and safety in training programs.
  • Maintain physical capability to operate simulators and ensure the safety of participants during training sessions.
  • Conduct academic instruction in simulators and classrooms for extended periods.
  • Ensure proficiency in the operation of essential HC-130J Aircrew Training Devices.
  • Possess prior aircraft operating experience to maintain credibility and engage effectively with attendees.
  • Maintain proficiency in emergency procedures, take-offs, and landings.
  • Evaluate instructor performance in both classroom and simulator settings, as required.
  • Participate in observation flights as necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to Air Education Training Command Instruction (AETCI) standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex documents.
  • Effective communication skills for sensitive inquiries and complaints.
  • Proficient in creating oral and written presentations on intricate subjects.
  • Capability to engage in periodic aircraft familiarization flights.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in emergency procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret data and graphs.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to collect data and draw valid conclusions.
  • Excellent facilitation and data analysis capabilities.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of flying experience, including five (5) years of military service, with at least two (2) years or 200 hours as a HC-130J Pilot Instructor.
  • Recent experience as a HC-130J Instructor Pilot or Evaluator Pilot is essential.
  • Experience with the EXPERT Common Immersive Theater Environment (XCITE) is required.
  • Completion of a formal USAF Instructor training course is mandatory.
  • Experience with National Industrial Security Program Manual (NISPOM) security management is necessary.
  • Familiarity with the Computer-Aided Assessment System and Visual Threat Recognition Avoidance Trainer (VTRAT) is preferred.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily in an office environment, utilizing computers, telephones, and printers. The role may involve exposure to conditions such as extreme heat, airborne particles, and high noise levels. Physical requirements include the ability to navigate stairs and ladders to access simulators or aircraft cockpits, as well as the ability to stoop, bend, and crawl as necessary.

Position Type

This is a full-time salaried position, requiring adherence to standard operational hours. Flexibility for evening or weekend work may be necessary to meet program needs.

Travel Requirements

Domestic and international travel may be part of this role.

Security Clearance

Eligibility for DoD Personnel Security Clearance is required. Candidates must be U.S. persons, as defined by ITAR/TAA, and capable of handling classified and unclassified information responsibly.
