Nuvance Health is seeking a skilled Histology Technologist 2 to join our team in the Pathology Anatomic department. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for providing quality technical and customer service to all customers, performing immunohistochemistry of new procedures, and training junior technologists.
Key Responsibilities- Provide quality technical and customer service to all customers in compliance with the expectations set by the organization.
- Perform computer accessioning and proper specimen labeling, ensuring instrument specimen integrity.
- Assist Pathology Residents and Pathologists as needed in Frozen Section & Gross Room.
- Perform routine Histology procedures necessary to prepare slides for examination by Pathologists, including but not limited to embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining.
- Perform special stains in accordance with quality standards.
- Initiate work procedures and perform all quality control, instrument maintenance, and documentation required by accrediting agencies.
- Communicate effectively and appropriately with coworkers, pathology residents, and pathologists to ensure the quality and integrity of the service.
- Maintain a safe environment for oneself and coworkers to comply with all regulatory agencies and with hospital's and Laboratory's Safety Programs.
- Assist in maintaining section's inventory to ensure proper levels of reagents, controls, and disposables.
- Perform Immunhistochemistry of new procedures.
- Train junior technologists and assist in implementation of new procedures. Assist in updating and writing procedures as assigned by the section's Technical Specialist.
- Fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate's Level Degree
- Significant manual skills/motor coordination and finger dexterity
- Some occupational risk
- Medium to Heavy effort. May exert up to 35 lbs. force
- Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
