Job Summary

To provide responsive and courteous law enforcement services in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances, generally consisting of routine patrol, interventions, investigations, and traffic regulation duties.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Preserve the Peace: Mediate, investigate, intervene, document, and arrest to improve the quality of life by reducing the fear and incidence of crime, recognizing and resolving problems, and meeting the public safety needs for the City.
  • Enforce Laws and Regulations: Enforce local, state, and federal laws, and enforce compliance with local regulations and ordinances, according to policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Patrol and Provide Security: Patrol the City to respond to citizens' requests for assistance, enforce traffic regulations, detect crime, apprehend violators, and assure public safety.
  • Investigate Crimes and Accidents: Investigate crimes and accidents, secure and process crime and accident scenes, and identify and collect evidence within scope of authority.
  • Arrest and Process Suspects: Arrest law violators, transport and process suspects, victims, and prisoners.
  • Complete Reports and Documentation: Complete detailed reports and required documentation, serve warrants and court documents.
  • Maintain Vehicle and Equipment: Maintain vehicle and equipment in accordance with Department guidelines.
  • Represent the Department: Represent the Police Department at court hearings, prepare reports, and testify in court cases.
  • Assist and Coordinate with Other Agencies: Assist and coordinate with other emergency services personnel, public organizations, and businesses, and federal, state, and local law enforcement organizations.
  • Presents Education and Information Programs: Present education and information programs for community and school awareness projects, teach and counsel residents on law enforcement activities and referral resources.
  • Perform Specialized Functions: Perform specialized functions in areas of expertise, including patrol and shift management, training, K-9, SWAT/SRT, and other special enforcement, intervention, and investigative teams.
  • Maintain Integrity and Professionalism: Maintain the integrity, professionalism, values, and goals of the City by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved.
  • Participate in Field Training: Participate in and perform field training duties and assignments as required.
  • Perform Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications
  • Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Required Licenses or Certifications: Peace Officer License from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) or proof of enrollment in a police academy at the time of application, with a TCOLE test date prior to the formal offer of employment.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Other Requirements: Police Department guidelines, policies, and procedures, City, county, state, and federal laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances, Texas criminal justice and court systems, and the principles of criminal justice records management.
