Job Title: Account Specialist I

The City of Chesapeake is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Account Specialist I to join our accounting team. As an Account Specialist I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review, verify, and process invoices for payments and credits.
  • Create accounts payable, revenue, and budget journals.
  • Prepare requisitions for the purchase of services, equipment, and supplies.
  • Verify, monitor, and reconcile accounts.
  • Coordinate payment of department-wide PCard report.
  • Coordinate the financial portion for department travel, including payments, per diem reimbursements, and travel voucher reconciliation.
  • Maintain department petty cash and travel petty cash.
  • Deposit miscellaneous accounts receivable.
  • Create and update supplier information in PeopleSoft for the Police Department.
  • Interact with employees, other departments (Finance, Purchasing, Treasurer), vendors, and external agencies to ensure accuracy of accounts and payments.
Requirements:
  • Vocational/Educational Requirement: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate's degree in accounting or a closely related field.
  • Experience: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent customer service skills, PeopleSoft experience, government accounting experience, and proficiency in Excel.
