Court Clerk

Location: Pinellas County, FL

Schedule: Monday - Friday, various shifts available

The individual in this role is expected to exercise independent judgment based on prior experience and training, along with the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with judges, attorneys, law enforcement, and the public within a courtroom environment. This position involves specialized administrative responsibilities during court sessions, including accurately recording minutes both manually and electronically that reflect court actions; preparing a diverse range of court documents; and ensuring the proper management of tangible evidence presented in court. The ability to meet additional work demands (including weekends, holidays, evenings, and emergency situations) while maintaining composure and focus during extended periods in court is essential. Reliable transportation is required for travel to various court locations as needed; strong communication skills, a professional demeanor, and teamwork capabilities are also critical.

Key Responsibilities

Accurately document court session minutes, utilizing both handwritten notes and the In-Court Docketing computer system. Prepare various court-related orders and documentation. Conduct research within the case management system. Provide training to fellow court clerks. Perform assigned filing duties. Administer oaths to witnesses and jurors. Maintain the care, custody, and control of all tangible evidence submitted in court. Engage in frequent interactions with judges, attorneys, defendants, and the public. Execute independent secretarial and clerical tasks across multiple court divisions (County Criminal, Circuit Criminal, Juvenile, Traffic, or Civil/Small Claims). Be available for overtime, including weekends and holidays. Adhere to legal standards and the rights of the accused. Perform related duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience in secretarial or clerical roles, with at least 1 year in legal or court-related work; or An Associate's degree coupled with at least 1 year of experience in secretarial or clerical work, including 1 year in legal or court procedures; or A Bachelor's degree or higher; or An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License. Availability for overtime, including weekends and holidays. Willingness to work various schedules, including emergency and disaster situations.
