Patient Care Associate

Under the direction of a registered nurse, the Patient Care Associate assists in clinical support functions to promote a safe and compassionate patient care environment. This role requires effective communication, basic math skills, and the ability to perform physical therapy skills with relevance to thoroughness and sequencing.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out patient care plans as directed by the registered nurse.
- Provide patient physical care, such as bed baths, toileting, and grooming, per established guidelines.
- Monitor patient vital signs and blood glucose levels per established guidelines.
- Prepare patients for meals and assist with meeting their needs.
- Perform patient rounds regularly and answer call lights promptly.
- Document patient care in a timely manner, adhering to established standards.
- Organize patient room clutter to maintain a clean environment.
- Obtain and label specimens consistent with established procedures.
- Mentor and teach new nursing assistants to meet performance expectations.
Education/Degree:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required, unless candidate holds a nursing assistant certification.
Experience/Certification:
- Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care.
- Enrollment in a nursing, pre-med, or physician assistant undergraduate program, with a minimum of one semester of completed patient care rotations at the time of hire.
- Possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment as a student in a nursing assistant, medical assistant, mental health technician, or EMT-accredited program at the time of hire.
Skills:
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Basic math and computer science skills.
- Healthcare Provider CPR certification required.
- Knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations.
This role requires working in a fast-paced healthcare environment, with exposure to blood-borne pathogens, hazardous specimens, and infectious/contagious diseases.
