Job Summary

As a Patient Care Associate at Spaulding Hospital-Boston & Cambridge (SRN, SRH, SHC), you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care under the direction of a registered/licensed nurse. This is an exciting opportunity to join our interdisciplinary healthcare team and contribute to a safe, compassionate patient care environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement patient care plans as directed by registered nurses.
  • Provide patient physical care, including bed baths, toileting, grooming, and changing bed linen, adhering to established guidelines.
  • Deliver patient general care, such as positioning, lifting, and turning, using adaptive and transfer equipment as needed.
  • Perform patient monitoring activities, such as vital signs and blood glucose checks, according to established protocols.
  • Prepare patients for meals and assist with feeding as necessary.
  • Conduct regular patient rounds and respond promptly to call lights to meet patients' needs.
  • Document patient care in a timely manner, adhering to established standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized patient room environment.
  • Collect and label specimens according to established procedures.
  • Provide mentoring and teaching to new nursing assistants to meet performance expectations.
  • Participate in additional department, organization, or network activities as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; nursing assistant certification is preferred.
  • Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Enrollment in a nursing, pre-med, or physician assistant undergraduate program, with a minimum of one semester of completed patient care rotations at the time of hire.
  • Possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment in a nursing assistant, medical assistant, mental health technician, or EMT-accredited program at the time of hire.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Basic skills in math and computer science.
  • Ability to perform, modify, and record physical therapy skills with relevance to appropriate thoroughness and sequencing.
  • Healthcare Provider CPR certification required.
  • Knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role requires working in a fast-paced healthcare environment with varying levels of noise, humidity, and physical demands. The ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects up to 50 pounds is necessary. The position also requires standing, walking, sitting, and using hands for fine motor skills and sense of touch. Regular vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
