Job Summary

Under the direction of a registered nurse, the Patient Care Associate plays a vital role in providing clinical support functions to promote a safe and compassionate patient care environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out patient care plans as directed by a registered nurse.
  • Provide patient physical care, including bed baths, toileting, grooming, and changing bed linen, in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Perform patient general care, such as positioning, lifting, and turning, and using adaptive and transfer equipment, as per established guidelines.
  • Conduct patient monitoring activities, including vital signs and blood glucose, in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Prepare patients for meals and assist with feeding as needed.
  • Perform regular patient rounds and respond promptly to call lights to meet patients' needs.
  • Document patient care in a timely manner, adhering to established standards.
  • Organize patient rooms to optimize space and maintain a clean environment.
  • Collect and label specimens in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide mentoring and teaching to new nursing assistants to meet performance expectations.
  • Complete additional department, organization, or network activities as per established objectives.

Qualifications and Experience
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required, unless the candidate holds a nursing assistant certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Enrollment in a nursing, pre-med, or physician assistant undergraduate program, with a minimum of one semester of completed patient care rotations at the time of hire.
  • Possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment as a student in a nursing assistant, medical assistant, mental health technician, or EMT-accredited program at the time of hire.
Physical Requirements

This role requires the ability to stand for 25% of the time, walk for 2-50% of the time, and sit for 50-75% of the time. The role also requires the ability to lift up to 10 pounds, carry up to 10 pounds, and push/pull up to 10 pounds.

Work Environment

This role requires working in a fast-paced healthcare environment with exposure to blood-borne pathogens, infectious/contagious diseases, and hazardous specimens.
