Patient Care Associate

As a Patient Care Associate at Spaulding Hospital - Boston and Cambridge, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families. Under the direction of a registered nurse, you will assist in clinical support functions to promote a safe and compassionate patient care environment.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out patient care plans as directed by a registered nurse.
- Provide patient physical care, including bed baths, toileting, grooming, and changing bed linen, according to established guidelines.
- Assist patients with positioning, lifting, and turning, and use adaptive and transfer equipment as needed.
- Perform patient monitoring activities, such as vital signs and blood glucose, according to established guidelines.
- Prepare patients for meals and assist with feeding as needed.
- Perform patient rounds regularly and respond promptly to call lights to meet patients' needs.
- Document patient care in a timely manner, adhering to established standards.
- Organize patient rooms to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Obtain and label specimens according to established procedures.
- Mentor and teach new nursing assistants to meet performance expectations.
- Complete additional department, organization, or network activities as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required, unless candidate holds a nursing assistant certification.
- Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care required.
- Enrollment in a nursing, pre-med, or physician assistant undergraduate program, with a minimum of one semester of completed patient care rotations at the time of hire.
- Possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment as a student in a nursing assistant, medical assistant, mental health technician, or EMT-accredited program at the time of hire.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
- Basic skills in math and computer science.
- Ability to perform, modify, and record all physical therapy skills with relevance to appropriate thoroughness and sequencing.
- Healthcare Provider CPR certification required.
- Knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations.
This role requires working in a fast-paced healthcare environment and may involve exposure to blood-borne pathogens, infectious diseases, and other hazardous materials. The physical demands of this role include standing, walking, sitting, and using hands requiring fine motor skills and sense of touch.
