Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Accounting Manager

Job Summary:

MidPen Housing is seeking an experienced Assistant Accounting Manager to join our team. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for financial closing and reporting, analytical review and reconciliation of accounts, and process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with management to revise current processes and develop recommendations for effective and efficient business processes
  • Manage the onboarding and training of new Property Accounting hires and oversee the continuous training of the Property Accounting team
  • Proactively research and document findings and conclusions for the accounting of significant transactions
  • Assist with the update and maintenance of the MidPen Accounting Policies & Procedures Manual
  • Responsible for analyzing financial information and accurately compiling information for financial reporting of an assigned portfolio of properties and general partners
  • Responsible for reviewing the month-end reporting of selected properties to ensure accurate accounting and analysis
  • Coordinate month-end closing schedule with outsourced accounting team
  • Closely work with internal and outsourced accounting teams for feedback on the work-product and coordination between the two teams on various aspects of month-end closing
  • Collaborate with Property Management, Asset Management, Corp and Dev. Accounting, IT and Data Analytics teams on various projects to improve efficiency and accuracy of accounting processes
  • Prepare annual audit schedules and work with external auditors to complete audit and tax return and ensure all are filed within timeline of Partnership and other agreements
  • Review audited financials and footnotes prepared by external auditors
  • Assist with the review of all surplus cash distributions to ensure accurate calculation and appropriate distributions

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
  • MBA, CPA, or equivalent preferred
  • Four (4) plus years of progressive experience in accounting and financial analysis
  • Experience in accounting for partnerships, not-for-profit organizations, and/or related party transactions is a plus
  • Previous experience in supervising and mentoring employees highly desired

Working Conditions:

This is a hybrid position, based on current MidPen policy of working Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Foster City Office. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, option to work from home or the office. When working from home, requires a reliable internet connection.
