Job Overview

The City of Chandler Management Services Department is actively seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Accounting Manager.

This is a full-time exempt role that offers a comprehensive benefits package. The position is unclassified and operates under the discretion of the City Manager. The standard working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

About Us

The Management Services Department of the City of Chandler comprises full-time equivalents (FTE) and includes various divisions such as Administration, Accounting, Budget, Purchasing, Central Supply, Tax and License, Utility Services, and Environmental Management.

The Accounting Division, consisting of 18 FTE, is tasked with managing daily city accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and providing timely financial information to stakeholders including the public, bondholders, grantors, auditors, City Council, and City Management.

Position Responsibilities

The successful candidate will oversee the Accounting Division, managing a team of professionals. Responsibilities include:

  • Directing and supervising all functions of the Accounting Division, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, special assessments, capital assets, cash management, investments, debt management, grant accounting, financial reporting, and compliance with citywide accounting policies.
  • Leading, reviewing, and preparing documentation for the annual audit and the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Providing oversight for payroll operations.

We seek a dedicated team member who demonstrates hard work, attention to detail, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn and innovate alongside the Management Services Team.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in government accounting and financial activities, including three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities to perform the work.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Certified Government Finance Manager (CGFM)
  • Experience in municipal government
  • Experience with Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and payroll

A register of qualified candidates will remain active for four months should additional positions become available. All applicants hired will be required to undergo fingerprinting with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
