Job Opportunity

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill a tenure-track faculty position in Sustainable Food Technology. This role will be based in the Department of Food Science and Technology at Virginia Tech.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a strong research and teaching program focused on sustainable food technology. This will involve:

  • Conducting research in sustainable food technology, with a specific emphasis on protein, carbohydrates, and/or other food ingredients derived from sustainable agricultural systems.
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in sustainable food technology and related areas.
  • Mentoring students and serving on department, college, and university committees.
  • Developing and sustaining relationships with industry leaders in sustainable and novel food ingredient development and application.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • A Ph.D. in food science & technology, food engineering, agricultural and biological engineering, plant chemistry or biochemistry, or other related discipline.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and conduct scholarly research.
  • Demonstrated ability for teaching in a classroom setting and commitment to quality student education.
  • Strong commitment to create an environment that fosters diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants with the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Demonstrated ability to write competitive research proposals.
  • Post-doctoral or industry research experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain relationships with industry partners.
  • Familiarity with food ingredient and food product regulations.
  • Expertise in ingredient science, intermolecular food systems and properties of food.
