Position Overview

The School of Animal Sciences is in search of an Assistant Professor specializing in Meat Science for a tenure-track, 9-month role. This position is designed to focus on both research (60%) and Extension (40%) activities. The ideal candidate will possess a robust foundation in meat science, with the objective of generating scholarly contributions that enhance their national standing. Additionally, they will be responsible for creating a dynamic Extension program tailored for diverse stakeholders within the meat sector, concentrating on critical areas such as pre-slaughter factors affecting meat quality, fresh meat standards, and food safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive research agenda.
  • Engage with various stakeholders in the meat industry through an innovative Extension program.
  • Contribute to existing Extension efforts aimed at processors, producers, youth, and consumers.
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses related to meat science.
  • Promote equity and inclusion within the academic environment.
  • Participate in professional conferences and meetings as necessary.

The selected candidate will benefit from access to state-of-the-art research facilities and may be required to travel for professional engagements. Successful candidates will also need to undergo a background verification process.

Compensation

Qualifications

Required: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in animal sciences, meat science, or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment. They should demonstrate the ability to lead a research initiative, attract external funding, effectively communicate knowledge to stakeholders, and exhibit a strong commitment to education and exceptional communication skills. Some travel for events will be necessary.

Preferred: Preference will be given to applicants with a proven history in grant writing, experience in Extension programming, and a record of published research.
