Position Overview
The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is tasked with implementing evidence-based medical nutrition therapy for assessing and treating patients of various age groups identified as having nutritional risks.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assess nutritional requirements and deliver medical nutrition therapy and education.
2. Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, sharing expertise and feedback to enhance patient outcomes.
3. Mentor and support new graduates and entry-level dietitians.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food & Nutrition or a related field is required.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and licensure with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) are mandatory.
- CPR Certification (Heart Saver only) from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association is required within six months of hire.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- A minimum of two years of clinical nutrition experience is preferred, or upon one year of employment, the candidate must meet career ladder criteria to maintain level II classification.
- A Master’s degree is equivalent to one year of experience, while a Doctoral degree related to nutrition equates to two years of experience.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Strong competencies in nutritional care and effective communication skills.
Principal Duties
- Develop and implement comprehensive nutrition care plans based on physician referrals or nursing assessments to achieve nutrition-related goals.
- Work collaboratively with the medical team to establish nutrition-related objectives and create individualized care plans with ongoing evaluations.
- Oversee medical nutrition therapy tailored to patients' age and preferences, ensuring modifications based on dietary tolerances and cultural considerations.
- Document nutrition care plans accurately in medical records, including assessments, monitoring parameters, goals, and recommendations.
- Provide nutrition education to patients and families that respects their age, cultural beliefs, and religious practices.
- Manage multiple responsibilities effectively while adhering to established policies and standards regarding time and resource management.
