Lead Engineer for Sensor Modeling and Simulation

The Systems Engineering Division (SED) boasts extensive experience in systems engineering, serving the U.S. government and various public and private entities, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and commercial firms involved in advanced space technology applications. SED applies a wide range of engineering and business disciplines to address a dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges, from systems architecture development to mission assurance and economic market analysis.
The Systems Performance, Estimation, and Algorithms Department (SPEAD) specializes in algorithm development and evaluation, alongside systems engineering and architecture analysis support for national security space clients.
Position Overview: The Senior MW/MT/MD Sensor Modeling and Simulation Engineer will deliver analytical support, software development, systems engineering, and modeling and simulation expertise for government clients in the missile warning/missile tracking/missile defense (MW/MT/MD) domain, including Probability of Warning assessments. The selected individual will collaborate closely with government representatives and Aerospace program office personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship in the modeling and performance analysis of MW/MT/MD sensors and their broader system-of-systems architectures.
- Conduct comprehensive analyses utilizing a framework of modeling, simulation, and analytical capabilities, including custom and commercially available tools.
- Evaluate electro-optical (EO), infrared (IR), radar, and passive radio frequency sensor concepts, architectures, and algorithms.
- Model Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) signal processing algorithms and assess their performance.
- Analyze ballistic and non-ballistic missile threats, focusing on detection, tracking, and custody behaviors.
- Perform sensor constellation performance evaluations and verify contractor analysis results.
- Conduct Probability of Warning analyses for various sensor concepts.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- A degree in mathematics, electrical or aerospace engineering, physics, computer science, or a related field, or a Bachelor's degree with twelve (12) years of relevant experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in systems engineering analysis of EO/IR space or airborne surveillance systems, including system-of-systems architectures and mission performance assessment.
- Experience in developing computer tools, simulations, and algorithms to support interdisciplinary analyses.
- A background in statistics, estimation, controls, or signal processing, with experience in EO/IR missile detection and tracking algorithms.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as MATLAB, C++, Python, C, or Java.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in analysis and leadership within the MW/MT/MD mission area.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work independently while effectively engaging with high-level personnel.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An advanced technical degree in a relevant field.
- Experience in developing and evaluating mission processing algorithms, including target detection and multi-target tracking.
- Familiarity with EO/IR system design trade studies and technology insertion.
- Experience in researching and applying innovative techniques for algorithm development.
- A current and active TS/SCI clearance.
