Position Overview
The Systems Engineering Division (SED) is recognized for its extensive expertise in systems engineering, providing support to the U.S. government and a multitude of public and private entities, universities, and nonprofit organizations engaged in advanced space technology applications. SED's capabilities include systems architecture development, system analysis, optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris management, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, and economic market analysis, all aimed at addressing a diverse portfolio of national challenges.
Work Environment
This role is a fully on-site position.
Key Responsibilities
The Systems Performance, Estimation, and Algorithms Department (SPEAD) is responsible for algorithm development, evaluation, modeling, simulation, and analysis for national security space clients, focusing on Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) sensors, missile warning and tracking, resiliency threat assessments, space domain awareness, and space security. The selected individual will spearhead project initiatives in threat characterization and radar modeling and simulation.
- Co-lead studies to assess and forecast threat systems utilizing validated intelligence and engineering methodologies, while mentoring junior staff.
- Oversee the technical advancement of the Advanced Sensor Performance Evaluation & Concept Toolkit (ASPECT) and related radar modeling efforts, managing analytical personnel.
- Facilitate the application of existing Aerospace tools and frameworks with government clients, transforming their challenges into actionable tasks supported by Aerospace's extensive capabilities.
- Ensure the growth of SPEAD's expertise in modern techniques and innovative methods for algorithm design and problem-solving.
Qualifications for Project Leader
- Master's degree in engineering, science, or a relevant technical field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Demonstrated project management and leadership capabilities.
- Experience in systems engineering analysis related to radar and space surveillance systems, including system-of-systems architectures and mission performance assessments.
- Involvement in the development of computational tools and simulations for interdisciplinary support teams.
- Background in statistics, estimation, controls, signal processing, or a related discipline, with experience in radar tracking algorithm development.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as FORTRAN, C++, Matlab, Python, Java, or C.
- Ability to think broadly at a systems level and quickly grasp diverse capabilities and tools.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work independently while effectively engaging with high-level personnel.
- This position necessitates a current and active TS/SCI security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.
Additional Requirements for Senior Project Leader
- A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
It would be advantageous to possess:
- A Ph.D. in engineering, science, or a relevant technical field.
- Academic experience in systems engineering and simulation/modeling.
- Experience with radar design trade studies and requirements definition for radar tracking systems.
- Leadership in system-level algorithm and radar functionality assessments.
- Extensive knowledge of the Engineering and Technology Group's (ETG) technical capabilities.
