The Modern, a Michelin-starred contemporary American restaurant located within the Museum of Modern Art, seeks an experienced Pastry Sous Chef to join their team.

As a key member of the pastry department, you will be responsible for overseeing the execution and development of pastry menus, leading a team of skilled Pastry Cooks, and maintaining the highest standards of quality and excellence in all aspects of pastry production. A passion for desserts, excellent work ethic, and strong communication skills are essential for success in this role.

  • Ensure seamless execution of pastry offerings during service periods, prioritizing timely delivery and exceptional hospitality.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with Kitchen & Service teams, fostering open communication and collaboration.
  • Guarantee that recipes, products, food preparations, and execution meet The Modern's rigorous culinary standards.
  • Provide ongoing support to pastry staff, actively participating in line service as needed.
  • Assist with food prep assignments and cooking during peak periods, ensuring adequate inventory levels and maintaining a clean, organized workspace.
  • Deliver Enlightened Hospitality to guests and colleagues alike, consistently upholding the company's high standards.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 2+ years' experience in a Pastry leadership position
  • Certification in Hospitality-related field (desired)
  • Demonstrated expertise in baking and pastry techniques, production, and equipment operation
  • Eagerness to learn and grow, with a positive demeanor and passion for the food industry
  • English fluency, with additional languages a plus
