Job Title: Sustainability Project Coordinator

Join the Conservation Corps of Long Beach as a Sustainability Project Coordinator and play a key role in developing at-risk youth to reach their full potential through work, service, conservation, and education.

Job Summary

The Sustainability Project Coordinator will be responsible for the direct supervision of the CCLB Sustainability Department, overseeing the planning, coordination, and business development of conservation projects. These projects include but are not limited to: recycling, community beautification, greening, and grant management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, bid, and evaluate recycling projects, natural lands management, community greening, and beautification projects in collaboration with public, non-profit, government agencies, and private sector companies.
  • Assist in writing grant applications for the Conservation Department, particularly those related to Cal Recycle grants and other relevant funding opportunities.
  • Provide regular supervision, training, and mentoring to Crew Supervisors to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Prepare and conduct weekly safety sessions for crews, ensuring adherence to safety protocols through situational training.
  • Maintain detailed project schedules and weekly rosters for all crews and assignments.
  • Coordinate projects and programs with partners and sponsors, ensuring strong relationships and project success.
  • Lead interviews and participate in the orientation of new corpsmember applicants.
  • Support the Project Manager in the coordination and supervision of corpsmember development and training programs.
  • Oversee and manage all equipment, project materials, safety supplies, and replenishments to maintain efficiency and budget adherence.
  • Be a proactive business development leader, acquiring new accounts and contracts to grow the department's portfolio.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience working in the recycling industry or with Cal Recycle grants, including familiarity with grant writing and management.
  • At least three years of prior supervisory experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire new business accounts and maintain strong client relationships, with a focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Strong knowledge of recycling, natural lands management, and community greening, including technical writing for proposal bids and contracts.
  • Ability to effectively communicate written and verbal instructions and directions.
  • Appreciation of environmental conservation and a commitment to fostering environmental ethics among staff and corpsmembers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with public officials, community groups, and other stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Prior experience in scheduling and supervising crews.
  • Prior management experience within public or non-profit agencies.

  • $66, $77,022.40 annually (reflects the base rate to mid range of the pay range - rank 19) based on a level of experience and education that exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale (salary range).
