Position Overview

The Adult Education and Literacy Program (AELP) at Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow, Inc. offers comprehensive English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses, citizenship preparation, computer literacy training, and GED support for individuals aged 18 and older. Our programs are designed to provide holistic support, including job readiness, placement services, and college preparation, with the aim of enhancing English proficiency, literacy skills, citizenship acquisition, GED attainment, and employment opportunities.

The selected candidate will deliver contextualized ESOL instruction tailored to the needs of English language learners. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work autonomously, demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, and exhibit creativity and organization while being committed to a learner-centered, participatory educational approach.

Compensation: The hourly wage for this role is $40.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct classes four times a week: Monday through Thursday.
  • Design and implement a cohesive, relevant, and student-centered ESOL curriculum that incorporates technology, authentic assessments, and work readiness skills.
  • Track and maintain accurate records of student attendance and participation.
  • Administer BEST Plus assessments for all new and currently enrolled students.
  • Engage in professional development and share best practices with colleagues.
  • Document student progress through monthly case notes.
  • Provide lesson plans to administration as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to retain students and deliver high-quality instruction.
  • Experience in lesson planning that integrates performance-based assessments and technology.
  • Familiarity with BEST Plus 2.0 testing (preferred).
  • Strong classroom management and community-building skills.
  • Timely and accurate completion of attendance and reporting requirements.
  • Proficient in utilizing technology to enhance the learning experience.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Dynamic presentation skills and a strong classroom presence.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in TESOL, TESLA, or CELTA preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish or English/French preferred.
  • BEST Plus 2.0 Certification preferred (training will be provided).
  • A minimum of two years of experience is required, ideally with adult learners or in family literacy contexts.
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and electronic ESOL resources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
