Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Adult Literacy Program Coordinator to join our team at the Brooklyn Public Library. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Literacy Zone, ensuring program targets are met, and maintaining community partner relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Literacy Zone, including program planning, outreach, and recruitment.
  • Conduct comprehensive ESOL and educational/vocational assessments to develop plans of service for participants.
  • Provide intensive one-on-one and/or small group services to participants and their families, including counseling and advising on career, academic, and social service needs.
  • Identify post-secondary transition programs and assist foreign-born participants in becoming familiar with the American workforce.
  • Collaborate with key staff and instructors to ascertain barriers that specific participants may be experiencing.
  • Communicate effectively with community partners to provide wrap-around services, including health literacy, financial literacy, and more.
  • Research and assist participants in acquiring related supportive services, such as computer literacy, transportation, public assistance, and childcare.
  • Facilitate and/or coordinate various workshops/information sessions.
  • Attend community partner meetings and bi-monthly case management team meetings.
  • Maintain case notes and monitor participants' progress.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field; relevant experience in adult education (ESOL or HSE).
  • Strong awareness of the barriers facing adult learners looking to integrate workforce, technology, and academic environments.
  • Relevant experience in counseling individuals and/or facilitating informational sessions.
  • Good knowledge of labor market trends and requirements, as well as the skills, abilities, and experiences required in various occupations.
  • Initiative, resourcefulness, tact, and courtesy; good judgment and problem-solving ability.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Google Drive, Outlook, and Social Media.
  • Able to travel to various program sites throughout the week and work alternate Saturdays, evenings, and day shifts.
Work Schedule

Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 9:45am-5:30pm

Tuesday/Thursday: 12:45pm-8:00pm

Two Saturdays a month: 10:00am-4:00pm

Must be willing to travel and work from various library branches within the Literacy Zone target area.

Complete 14 hours of professional development per year.
