Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

This role is specifically designed for the Mental Health Division. The individual will provide educational assistance and support to children of clients during the hours of 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, either in their homes or within the community. The specialist will develop tailored homework and activity packages for the children. Furthermore, the specialist will assist parents during school meetings as necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Design, plan, and execute an educational program that caters to the needs, interests, and abilities of students, while fostering self-motivation, independence, self-esteem, and productivity.
  2. Create and implement a curriculum that employs both individual and small group instruction tailored to the functional and cognitive capabilities of the students.
  3. Instruct students in various academic subjects using diverse teaching methods, including phonetics, multisensory learning, and repetition to enhance understanding.
  4. Acquire, maintain, and utilize educational software and other learning materials as integral components of the educational process.
  5. Collaborate with teacher aides, vocational staff, and other rehabilitation service personnel both on-site and at remote facilities.
  6. Organize and lead field trips to enrich educational and vocational skills, as well as to apply practical knowledge. Facilitate engaging activities for the children.
  7. Monitor, assess, and document the progress of each student, sharing insights with other rehabilitation staff involved in their care.
  8. Administer and interpret the results of ability and achievement assessments.
  9. Provide information and resources regarding additional educational opportunities and options.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

· Basic understanding of mental health issues and emotional disturbances, as well as substance abuse disorders.

· Familiarity with treatment, rehabilitation, and community support programs relevant to clients, families, and staff.

· Awareness of techniques for identifying and managing potentially violent behavior, including crisis intervention strategies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Ability to engage with clients, families, and staff in a compassionate and respectful manner, considering cultural differences.

· Serve as a positive role model for clients.

· Proficiency in completing written documentation accurately and promptly, both manually and digitally.

· Effective communication skills with staff, clients, families, and the public.

· Capability to accompany or transport clients (some roles may require a valid driver's license).

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

An Associate's degree with a minimum of two years of tutoring or teaching experience, or a Bachelor's degree with at least one year of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with applicable experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in tutoring or teaching children and adolescents.
