Position Overview

The Adult Education and Literacy Program (AELP) is dedicated to offering English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses, citizenship preparation, computer literacy training, and GED support for individuals aged 18 and older. Our programs are designed to provide comprehensive support services, including job readiness training, employment placement assistance, and college preparation. The primary objective is to empower adults and youth to enhance their English language skills, improve literacy, achieve citizenship, obtain their GED, and advance their employment opportunities.

The selected candidate will be responsible for delivering contextualized ESOL instruction to English language learners. The ideal candidate should possess the ability to work autonomously and demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills. Creativity, organization, and a commitment to learner-centered, participatory education are essential.

Compensation: The hourly wage for this role is $40/hour.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct classes four times a week: Monday through Thursday.
  • Design and implement a relevant, integrated ESOL curriculum that incorporates technology, authentic assessments, and work readiness skills.
  • Track and maintain accurate records of student attendance and participation.
  • Administer BEST Plus testing for all new and currently enrolled students.
  • Engage in professional development and share best practices with colleagues.
  • Document student progress through monthly case notes.
  • Provide lesson plans to administration as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated high student retention rates and effective classroom instruction.
  • Experience in lesson planning that incorporates performance-based assessments and technology.
  • Familiarity with BEST Plus 2.0 testing (preferred).
  • Strong classroom management and community-building skills.
  • Proficient in sharing best practices and completing attendance and progress reports accurately and timely.
  • Experience utilizing technology to enhance the learning experience.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Dynamic presentation skills and strong classroom presence.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in TESOL, TESLA, or CELTA preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish or English/French preferred.
  • BEST Plus 2.0 Certification preferred (training will be provided).
  • A minimum of two years of experience is required, ideally with new American adults or in family literacy settings.
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and electronic ESOL resources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
