Job Overview

Position Summary

This role is eligible for the Nursing Support Incentive Program, which provides a total of $5,000 over a three-year commitment.

Work Schedule: 36 hours per week with a rotation between day and night shifts (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, 3:00 PM - 7:30 AM).

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a specialized 20-bed facility within a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. Our dedicated team delivers care for complex pediatric medical and surgical cases through a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach. We cater to a diverse range of specialties, including trauma, general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, ENT, oncology, solid organ transplants, burns, and various medical specialties. Our environment emphasizes family-centered care, with eight beds specifically designated for pediatric cardiac patients.

This position encompasses responsibilities of both a Nursing Assistant and a Health Unit Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist healthcare professionals during routine examinations and procedures, including the procurement of necessary equipment and supplies.
2. Review patient care documentation critically, noting significant changes in patient conditions and reporting them to a registered nurse or physician immediately.
3. Perform various clerical tasks such as organizing and prioritizing workloads, greeting and directing visitors, researching information for healthcare providers, reviewing orders for accuracy, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records. Conduct routine quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory management.
4. Provide clinical support, including cleaning work areas, maintaining office equipment, troubleshooting common software and hardware issues, changing linens, checking supply inventories, restocking supplies, transporting patients, and assisting in the orientation of new staff and students.
5. Deliver direct personal care to patients as outlined in their care plans, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with mobility. Measure and record vital signs, height, and weight. Responsibilities may also include specimen collection, skin preparations, catheter care, blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range of motion exercises, and postural drainage.
6. Reinforce routine patient education provided by registered nurses or physicians and document patient understanding of instructions. Distribute educational materials as requested by patients or healthcare providers.

Qualifications:
Education:
● High School diploma or GED required.
Licensure/Certification:
● Must be listed on the Nurse Aide I Registry with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
● Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification is required.
Experience:
● Minimum of one year of clerical or customer service experience and six months of relevant nursing assistant experience, which may include a nursing assistant course or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills:
● Proficiency in verbal and written English is essential. Ability to develop computer skills if not already competent.
